Virtual Exhibition

Student Designers

This gallery showcases the creative designs of students from SDSU, and San Diego area Community Colleges, and High Schools. The exhibition has been juried by a community of design professionals. 

We are pleased to announce the winners of the student design contest. The work was reviewed by a panel of professional designers and design facultyat SDSU.

The virtual student exhibition features designs and artwork of students  from San Diego State University (SDSU), local community colleges, and high schools whose work focuses on four impactful themes: Black Design Heritage and Innovation, Representation and Empowerment, Social Justice and Activism, and Future Directions and Possibilities. The exhibition is juried by design professionals, and awards were announced at the Symposium. This exhibition and contest provide a unique opportunity for young artists to showcase their talents while engaging with critical social and cultural themes.

Eligibility:
This call is was open to any student enrolled in a San Diego County High School, Community College, or University. There were no entry fees, and students were able to submit multiple entries.


Key Themes:

You are invited to submit artwork that reflects one of the following thematic categories:


1. Black Design Heritage and Innovation: Artwork in this category should explore Black cultural heritage, ancestral traditions, or storytelling that highlights the legacy of Black design and creativity.

 

2. Representation and Empowerment: This theme encourages designs that showcase Black representation and diversity in design disciplines, challenging traditional norms and creating spaces for marginalized voices.

 

3. Social Justice and Activism: Submissions in this category should engage with design as a tool for social change, addressing urgent issues such as racial injustice, inequality, and environmental sustainability.

 

4. Future Directions and Possibilities: Artwork in this category should envision the future of Black design, exploring its potential to break boundaries, challenge conventions, and shape new trends or emerging technologies.

 

Awards:
The selected winner in each thematic category will receive $100, and one overall "Best of Show" award will be granted in the amount of $200. $100 Gift Cards from Blick Art Supplies to High School and Community College Students.
